Love and laughter fills Michelle and Patrick’s beautiful wedding ceremony
Love and laughter filled the Church of the Immaculate Conception, when Michelle O’Kane and Patrick McKane were wed in a beautiful ceremony which had a country-chic, yet gorgeously glamorous feel.
Under the watchful eye of their beloved daughters, Ivy-Grace and Lola- Mae, the pair were married by Fr Declan Boland at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Strabane on February 10, 2018. Their wedding reception took place at the Beech Hill Country House in Derry – a place favoured by the couple because of its outstanding quality of food and service, as well as the scenic grounds which surrounded the location.
Michelle, who is a canteen worker from Strabane, first met Patrick, a farmer from Strabane, at one of their local community centres when she was just a young teenager. “We got way-laid for a good few years until he realised he was on to a good thing,” Michelle laughed. “But his cheeky and humorous nature won me over from the start.”
Michelle recalls relaxing in her home and watching the television when Patrick asked her ‘if she wanted to go and choose a ring’. “I didn’t actually think the whole thing was real until we hit the jewellery shops,” Michelle said. “But I absolutely loved my engagement ring, which admittedly, I picked out myself.
It was platinum, and had three shoulders with a rectangular shape on top filled with diamonds. “After ring shopping, we began planning for our wedding straight away,” Michelle added. “Paddy wanted it to be a quick engagement as he didn’t want to have to listen to too much wedding talk!
“We definitely wanted to keep everything as traditional as possible. As Paddy is a farmer, I wanted our wedding to have a country-chic feel. We referred to our theme as ‘farmer meets glamour’.”
Michelle said that she ‘had the best experience’ when it came to wedding dress shopping and happily the first gown she tried on turned out to be the perfect one for her! The heavily-embellished YolanCris dress featured a fitted design, with beautifully feminine long sleeves.
“I have always loved YolanCris – the designers that made my dress,” Michelle explained. “And it just so happened that they were having a trunk show the month after I got engaged at The White Gallery. That is where I had purchased my dress, and Rachel the assistant there was a dream to work with!”
The morning of their winter wedding day was very cold but dry, and Michelle recounts ‘bursting with excitement’ as she made the five-minute journey to the chapel with her dad in a gorgeous white Mercedes. “It felt like the longest journey ever, but I was that excited that I practically ran up the aisle!” she laughed. “But our service was just lovely. It was full of love and laughter. Our priest, Fr Boland is a humorous man and made us feel very at ease.”
Michelle added, “Our daughter, Lola- Mae read a poem towards the end of the ceremony that definitely pulled on a few heart strings. “My youngest daughter, Ivy-Grace who is only three had memorised the whole last paragraph for months in the lead up to the wedding, but unfortunately fell asleep on her nanny’s knee just seconds before she had to get up and do it! “After we left the chapel, it started to rain but we certainly didn’t let it dampen our spirits.”
Michelle concluded, “Our wedding day was amazing – it was the best day of our lives. Paddy, the girls, and I didn’t want it to end! “I didn’t leave the dance floor the whole night, and ended up having a really long extended night cap with bestie Emma Kelly who was also my bridesmaid!
“Everyone had been telling me that it would come and go in a blink of an eye, and it did. But we tried to cherish every moment, and we really enjoyed ourselves. “When people ask us how our wedding day went, we describe it as ‘one big overly-dressed party’. If only I could wear my dress to every party!”
