Behind the scenes: Once upon a time at Oakfield Park photoshoot
Our summer photoshoot took our team to Oakfield Park. We have a confession to make when we pulled back our curtains and looked out of the windows we weren’t greeted with the crisp, clear, spring morning we were hoping for. In fact, we were greeted with snow. Quite a lot of snow! But as they say the show must go on.
Our team arrived, all a little later than planned to Oakfield Park, a beautiful location just outside Raphoe, Co.Donegal. Even with a blanket of snow covering their legendary gardens we knew it was something special.
As estate manager David took our photographer Jude and magazine co-ordinator Catherine round the grounds to scope out new locations (our original plans now out the window), the rest of the team set about their work of getting our model’s ready.
There were not one, but two photoshoots happening for us that day, our usual eight-page shoot centred around female trends and for the first time ever we also shot a male campaign with Tyrone GAA’s Richie Donnelly taking up the role of male model.
Locations picked we set about getting Richie’s first shots taken. We quickly found a shovel, bin bags and sweeping brush would become our most used tools that day!
First look in the bag and we took both models outside to get some shots beside the water. See what we mean by quite a bit of snow! Lucy was a total pro and we think you’ll agree you’d never tell from the finished product that we had a hot water bottle and blanket just out of shot to warm her up!
With that it was a succession of quick turnarounds to get as many shots in the bag before lunchtime thanks to our later start. Our male shoot was completed by lunchtime and after we’d had a quick break the sun came out for a while in the afternoon.
A highlight for the entire team was getting a trip on Oakfield Park’s famous train to get a few shots around the grounds which were harder to reach by car or on foot.
It may not have been the shoot we’d envisioned but we are delighted with the final results and would encourage you all to visit Oakfield Park’s website to get a better look at their stunning surroundings.
